YOUR BOATY MCBOATFACE DOESN'T FIT
UK voters saved from themselves as new ship name altered
UK democracy was shown to be in the rudest of health today as officials hastily altered the outcome of a public vote because they didn’t like the result.
Despite being the clear public choice and raising interest in polar exploration to new levels, officials have been quick to save the UK population from themselves as the new royal research ship will not now be named ‘Boaty Mcboatface’ but the RRS Sir David Attenborough.
One science official said, “Obviously we’re all big fans of democracy until the British public start to make decisions we weren’t expecting. Then we…aren’t.”
“This government won’t stand for the public making up their minds in a way we’re not expecting. Yes, we’ve sanctioned the names Buttercup and Cockchafer in the past but this was just the British public being silly.”
“We needed to step in and save them from themselves by changing the outcome.”
Moderately minded UK citizens were left pondering if the same could be done with Neil Hamilton’s democratic election to the Welsh Assembly which occurred on the same day.
Reports that David Attenborough is considering changing his name to Boaty Mcboatface are as yet unconfirmed.
