Russian Athletics Federation cry foul over IAAF Ban
There was uproar yesterday as the Russian Athletics Federation cried foul over the decision to extend the ban on their athletes competing following the discovery of state sponsored doping.
“We are extremely disappointed by the IAAF’s decision, creating the unprecedented situation of a whole nation’s track and field athletes being banned from the Olympics,” said the Russian ministry of sport.
“The IAAF are being very unfair. Only the athletes we denied existed should be banned from the games.”
Yelena Isinbayeva, who had hoped to seek a third Olympic pole vault gold in Rio and who is one of Russia’s most prominent athletes, described it as a violation of human rights.
“I will not be quiet, I will take steps. I will go to the human rights court. I’ve got a fridge full of clean piss that I was going to take to Rio that's now useless."
Vladimir Putin is rumoured to be considering his response although one source is quoted as saying he has a back-up plan at his disposal.
“We will annex the Ukrainian Olympic team next week. Problem solved.”
