PLASTIC CHAIRS OVERTAKE VUVUZELAS AS MOST POPULAR TOURNAMENT MERCHANDISE
The sale of Euro 16 plastic chairs has exploded in the last few days leading it to be crowned the most popular merchandise in tournament history, outstripping the sale of Vuvuzelas at the 2010 World Cup.
Chairs have been particularly popular in Marseille with England and Russian fans snapping up as many as they can find. With demand outstripping supply, crafty French traders have been stocking up on chairs from local garden centres to sell to chair hungry fans as one local stall holder explained:
"Sacre Bleu, we've been inundated by the fans wanting chairs. I wish I hadn’t stocked up with all these scarves now. They just want chairs. Those crazy English, they’re chair crazy or as we like to say, 'chaise stupide'”
Fans have been going through chairs like wildfire with Lee from Stoke commenting, “We can’t get our hands on enough chairs. The thing is when you’ve thrown it at a French copper it’s hard to get back.”
