FIASCO!
Van Gaal race for 5th halted as match postponed
An "urgent" inquiry has been demanded after a suspicious item used in a security exercise caused a Premier League match at Old Trafford to be postponed.
The game between Manchester United and Bournemouth was called off after the item was discovered close to kick-off.
The alarm was raised when a suspicious item was spotted shortly before kick-off. Police have denied it was a trophy, and carried out a controlled explosion.
Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd called for a full inquiry into the "fiasco". He said, "Some fans have travelled right from the South Coast for nothing, it's a fiasco," adding "Let's not forget the Bournemouth fans have had a long journey too."
One annoyed fan said, "It's a disgrace, we took our seats and then got told to get out of the ground. I've not seen Old Trafford empty so quick since David Moyes was in charge."
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police stated, "We've had reports this situation was caused by thousands of drunken, ticketless fans trying to gain entry."
